An Age Well Skincare Routine for Mature Skin

A simple Age Well routine has four priorities: cleanse gently, support hydration, introduce retinol gradually, and protect your skin from the sun every day. Consistency matters more than using a crowded line-up of active ingredients.

This routine is designed for adults who want to soften the appearance of fine lines, dryness, uneven texture or loss of firmness without making skincare unnecessarily complicated. If your skin is sensitive, begin with the basic routine and add only one active product at a time.

Age Well routine at a glance

Morning

  1. Gentle cleanse or rinse
  2. Hydrating serum
  3. Moisturiser
  4. Broad-spectrum SPF 50 or SPF 50+ sunscreen

Evening

  1. Gentle cleanse
  2. Retinol on selected nights
  3. Moisturiser

On evenings when you do not use retinol, keep the routine simple: cleanse, hydrate and moisturise.

Your morning Age Well routine

Step 1: Cleanse without leaving skin tight

Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Cleansing should remove overnight oil and residue without leaving your skin feeling stripped. If your skin is dry and comfortable when you wake, a water rinse may be enough.

Step 2: Add lightweight hydration

Apply a few drops of Hyaluron8 HA2 Hyaluronic Acid Serum to clean skin. Follow the product directions and place it before heavier creams. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture-binding ingredient, so this step is intended to help skin feel smoother and more comfortably hydrated.

Step 3: Seal in moisture

Follow with Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser. Its lightweight formula includes hyaluronic acid, squalane, jojoba seed oil and apricot kernel oil. If your skin still feels dry, use a little more moisturiser rather than adding several new serums at once.

Step 4: Finish with sunscreen

Sun protection is the non-negotiable Age Well step. Cancer Council Australia recommends a broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 50 or SPF 50+ sunscreen as part of sun protection. Apply it generously and follow the label, including reapplication directions. Sunscreen works best alongside shade, protective clothing, a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses.

Your evening Age Well routine

Step 1: Cleanse

Remove sunscreen, make-up and the day’s residue with a gentle cleanse. Pat dry rather than rubbing.

Step 2: Introduce retinol slowly

Active A Retinol Cream is the targeted step in this routine. Begin with a small amount on one or two non-consecutive evenings a week, then increase only if your skin remains comfortable. Apply at night and follow the product label.

Retinol can cause dryness, peeling or irritation, especially when introduced too quickly. Do not use it on already irritated skin. Avoid combining it in the same routine with strong exfoliating acids until you know how your skin responds. Retinoids should not be used during pregnancy; ask your doctor or dermatologist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, using prescription skin treatments or unsure whether retinol suits you.

Step 3: Moisturise

Finish with moisturiser. If retinol feels drying, you can apply moisturiser before and after it—the “sandwich” approach—to reduce direct contact while your skin adjusts.

How long before you notice a difference?

Hydration can make skin feel more comfortable quickly, but visible changes in texture and fine lines take time. Give a consistent routine several weeks before judging it, unless irritation develops. More product or more frequent use is not necessarily better.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Starting everything at once: introduce one active product at a time so you can identify what helps—or irritates—your skin.
  • Using retinol too often: build frequency gradually rather than pushing through persistent redness or peeling.
  • Skipping moisturiser: comfortable, supported skin is more likely to tolerate a routine consistently.
  • Treating sunscreen as optional: daily sun protection supports every other step in an Age Well routine.

Frequently asked questions

Can beginners use retinol?

Many beginners can, but start slowly and choose one retinol product. Patch test first, follow the label and stop if you develop a significant reaction.

Can I use hyaluronic acid with retinol?

They can generally sit in the same routine because hyaluronic acid provides hydration rather than exfoliation. Apply products according to their labels and reduce the routine if your skin becomes uncomfortable.

Is this routine only for mature skin?

No. “Age Well” describes the goal, not an age requirement. Adults may use a simple protective and hydrating routine whenever it suits their skin.

What if my skin is sensitive?

Begin with cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. Patch test any new product, browse the Calm & Comfort collection and seek professional advice if irritation persists.
